SHEconomy Interview with Cheryl Viegas-Walker, Mayor of El Centro, CA

Ingrid Vanderveldt, Founder & CEO of Empowering a Billion Women, sits down with the current Mayor of El Centro, California to discuss the current and ongoing conditions within the city and the community and how El Centro has been hit harder by COVID-19 than other communities.

Mayor Walker moved to El Centro in 1988 from Seattle, and while living in the city, became the biggest advocate and supporter of this town. Walker states that the spirit of community in El Centro and the care and concern people have for one another is remarkable.

When the pandemic hit, El Centro was hit really hard by COVID-19 and it spread quickly in such a connected community. With multiple generations living under one roof, an issue of chronic underlying health conditions and a lack of healthcare in this community, El Centro quickly became a hotbed for COVID-19.

Watch now as Mayor Walker discusses how El Centro is banding together to help members of the community, how antibody treatments are currently available in this town, and how it can help those who have recently tested positive for COVID-19.
